Diana Yoon Schwartz, MD, PhD

Dr. Diana Yoon SchwartzDr. Schwartz began her studies by obtaining a B.A. from Brown University. After matriculating from the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Schwartz completed a combined general surgery residency and doctorate in molecular biology through a competitive NIH-funded program at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Her dissertation, entitled "The Role of Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Nuclear Translocator (ARNT) in Carcinogenesis," involved studying the role of transcription factors in molecular carcinogenesis. A portion of her research was devoted to studying solid organ cancers such as pancreatic, liver, and breast cancer. She found that Aryl Hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) agonists have a growth inhibitory effect on estrogen receptor positive breast cancer and that understanding this pathway may lead to the use of AhR agonists in preventing and treating breast cancer. She was awarded a grant through the Jonnson Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated program, to study the effects of dioxin on breast cancer.

Dr. Schwartz has received numerous research and teaching awards. She has presented her research at national scientific meetings and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals including basic research in breast cancer.

Dr. Schwartz completed a plastic and reconstructive surgical residency at Montefiore Medical Center - Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is currently board-certified in General Surgery.

Dr. Schwartz has recently joined Dr. Keller in practice and makes an excellent addition to the breast reconstruction team.
